There's something special when it comes to baseball, Dads, and their sons. A time to connect doing the simplest of things; playing catch. Who knew that many countless hours of entertainment can come from hitting a ball with a wooden bat and throwing a ball back and forth. I remember growing up and having my Dad teach me and play catch with me in our old backyard. That yard seemed so big as a child. To a father who moved to America, baseball must have seemed even more so special being that it is "America's Pastime". It was how people literally passed time way before television, video games, and the internet were even thoughts. Throughout all the years living here in America my parents never had the opportunity to watch a baseball game live, in person.
Sunday, June 22th, 2015 we had the privilege to spend our Father's Day with the family and our friends. It was a humid, sticky, New York City summer day. Despite the Yankees being dominated by Detroit's Tigers, it was still a great day. With the morning being cloudy and rainy, the sky cleared and the sun still came out. We found parking in Manhattan, which is something to always get excited about. The kid's seemed to have a blast throughout the whole day. Five-month old Penelope didn't cry once during the day. The stadium food was typically expensive but still really good. Our post game adventures to Artichoke Pizza and Snowdays located in the East Village couldn't have ended the day in a better fashion. Unique, creamy spinach artichoke pizza in a hot cramped hole in the wall restaurant with no air conditioning, as well as no ice (what kind of place doesn't have ice, I ended up buying a ten pound bag from a deli close by) doesn't seem to get any more New York then that. Snowdays was amazing as well. The perfect summer treat here in Manhattan. Shaved flavored ice, topped with various fruits, snacks, and goodies. The lighter, more refreshing, guilt free alternative to ice cream. From Staten Island to Bayonne to Manhattan to the Bronx and back, the day was quite the trip.
Here's a quick photo recap of our day. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! Happy 28th Fathers Day Dad! Thanks again for everything you do and everything you've taught me! "Wow, I'm happy enough just seeing the stadium!" My Dad said that before we entered. Hope you enjoyed your first All-American Major League Baseball game!
